GRACE - Generating Resources for vaccine research through Active Community Engagement
In this project we will engage with underserved communities to understand why some people are reluctant to participate in vaccines research. Underserved communities are those that are less well represented in research. In the UK we know for example that ethnic minority groups were less likely to participate in COVID-19 research. This is important because health and care research should meet the needs of the whole population.
We will undertake focus groups and interviews with a range of different communities to try and understand what stops people from participating in vaccine research trials. The learning from these events will help us design resources to support our research centres to recruit more diverse participants.
We are currently working on a literature review. This review will inform an equalities impact assessment, to help us decide which communities we want to work with in the focus groups and interviews, in addition to helping us develop our focus group discussion guides.
